Our Mission
A Cultural Project of More Than Four Decades
Systematically preserving the creative achievements of leading Chinese artists.
From Collections to Cultural Legacy
Building Cultural Capital for the Future
1. The Cultural Project of Four Decades
Founded in 1983, Tao Tao Art has been dedicated to building a museum-quality collection for more than four decades. Through long-term support for artists and a systematic approach to collecting, we have preserved many of the most significant achievements of modern Chinese art.
We believe that collecting is more than preserving works of art; it is preserving the cultural memory of an era. Tao Tao Art is therefore not merely an art collection, but a cultural project that has continued for more than forty years.
2. Walking with Artists
Since 1986, Tao Tao Art has established long-term creative partnerships with artists. Guided by the vision of building a museum-quality collection, we have continuously supported artistic creation while preserving each artist's most representative works.
Many important masterpieces were not collected after they had been completed. Rather, they were nurtured through years of research, documentation, close communication, and continuous support throughout the creative process.
Examples include:
Liao Hongbiao
《The Sedentary Buddha Sakyamuni》 (1987–1989) took two and a half years to complete. In 1990, it received First Prize at the China Arts and Crafts Hundred Flowers Awards, First Prize at the National Ceramic Art Exhibition, and the Silver Cup Award at the First Jingdezhen International Ceramic Competition, becoming one of the most highly acclaimed masterpieces in the history of Chinese ceramic sculpture.
《Bringing the Painted Dragon to Life by Dotting Its Pupils》 (1990–1992) required one and a half years of repeated glaze experimentation in pursuit of the ideal blue Jun glaze effect before the work was finally completed.
《Guan Yu Riding a Thousand Miles Alone》 (1991–1993) took another two and a half years to complete. By overcoming the technical challenge of firing a ceramic horse supported by four slender legs, it became the only full-scale work of its kind to be successfully fired intact.
《Avalokiteśvara》 was conceived over eight years and completed between 1994 and 1995. After the limited-edition sculptures were produced, the original mould was destroyed to preserve their rarity and artistic integrity.
Xu Xiutang
《The Eighteen Arhats》 was commissioned in 1989. After nearly two years of planning and creation, the complete set was finished in 1990.
Shang Tao
Between 1987 and 2004, Tao Tao Art systematically preserved Shang Tao's most important paintings from his mature creative period through long-term support for his artistic creation.
This collection ultimately led to the National Museum of History exhibition "The Formless Form: An Exhibition of Shang Tao" in 2017.
3. Collecting Philosophy
True masterpieces come before great masters; however, not every work created by a great master is necessarily a masterpiece. This has been the guiding philosophy of Tao Tao Art throughout more than four decades of collecting.
A truly great artist is remembered through masterpieces that stand the test of time. Likewise, every enduring masterpiece embodies the artist's lifelong pursuit of artistic excellence, profound emotion, technical mastery, and the courage to innovate.
Only through sincere dedication, refined artistic accomplishment, the relentless pursuit of perfection, and the determination to break new ground can a work transcend its own era, move people's hearts, and earn an enduring place in the history of art.
For this reason, Tao Tao Art has always focused on the artistic excellence and cultural significance of each work, rather than its market popularity or temporary fame.
4. Museum-Quality Collections and Exhibitions
The principal collections of Tao Tao Art include:
● Shang Tao — Ink Paintings from His Mature Period (1987–2004)
● Shiwan Ceramic Sculpture by Liao Hongbiao
● Yixing Zisha Art by Xu Xiutang
● Masterpieces of Yixing Zisha Teapots
● 《Ancient Poems, Contemporary Paintings》 — Paintings Inspired by Classical
Chinese Poetry by Twenty-six Chinese Artists
Over the years, Tao Tao Art successfully passed the National Museum of History's rigorous curatorial review process on three separate occasions, resulting in three major collection exhibitions and the publication of three official exhibition catalogues. This represents a remarkable achievement in the history of private art collecting in Taiwan.

Our goal is not only to preserve these collections, but also to ensure that they continue to be understood, shared, and appreciated, creating lasting cultural, educational, and social value for future generations.
6. Our Mission
What deserves to be passed on is not only the works of art themselves, but also the cultural spirit, creative journey, and collective memory embodied within them.
For more than four decades, Tao Tao Art has preserved not only works of art, but also the most significant chapters in the creative lives of remarkable artists. What we safeguard is not merely individual works of art, but the artistic and cultural assets of an era, preserved for future generations.
Collecting is not the end of culture.
Enabling culture to continue creating value is the true mission of collecting.
