中國工藝美術大師 徐秀棠
中國工藝美術大師、中國民間文化傑出傳承人，榮獲中國工藝美術終身成就獎、國家級非物質文化遺產傳承人、中國陶瓷藝術、設計、教育終身成就獎等多項榮耀頭銜，並被授予全球中華文化藝術薪傳獎。為江南大學客座教授、無錫工藝職業技術學院客座教授。
出生於宜興蜀山紫砂世家，1954年師從紫砂陶刻名藝人任淦庭先生，1955年入蜀山陶業合作社（宜興紫砂工藝廠前身），1958年參加中央工藝美術學院中國民間雕塑研究班學習，後轉入「泥人張（張景祜）」工作室學習彩塑。1978年創作《雪舟學畫》等，先後參加北京舉辦的宜興陶瓷展覽和全國陶瓷藝術展評活動，獲全國美術設計獎。後相繼創作以文學、藝術和民間典故為題材的群組作品，如《坐八怪》、《飲中八仙》等。1987年主持紫砂二廠積缶齋雕塑藝術工作室，熱心培養青年藝術家。1990年四月，《十八羅漢》在「中國第二屆紫陶藝展覽會」發表。1995年創辦長樂陶莊。
徐秀棠綜合陶刻、陶塑而設計創作出別具風貌的紫砂壺，如《靈豹壺》、《朱雀壺》、《竹報平安》等。曾發表論文《紫砂陶刻藝術理論》。1992年與顧景舟、李昌鴻三人共同編輯《宜興紫砂珍賞》，香港三聯書店出版。有多部專著《中國紫砂》、《大師說器－徐秀棠說紫砂》、《紫砂工藝》、《宜興紫砂紫砂工藝圖述本》等為上海古籍出版社、上海辭書出版社、浙江人民出版社、上海書畫出版社等出版發行。作品《坐八怪》、《丙寅大吉》、《不朽的生命》等榮獲全國陶瓷評比一等獎。《茶葉罐》英國倫敦大不列顛博物館收藏。《劉海戲金蟾》、《供春》、《丈天》、《始陶異僧》等作品獲國內外各大博物館收藏。

人物取材於《陽羨茗壺系》原始篇
老僧相貌奇異，神態深奧，神情自信給人深不可測的感覺。作者據紫砂史籍記載，刻畫這位紫砂土由來的傳奇老僧。相傳紫砂土是由一位異僧經過村落時呼叫“賣富貴土”時，引導村民入黃龍山中，指土穴而去。於是村民開始挖掘出五色齊備的紫砂泥，而成就了紫砂藝術的輝煌歷史。
